I know the movie is 32 years old but I feel like Aunt Debbie (Addams Family Values 1993) is one of the few people whose quality of life could have really benefitted from a few therapy sessions with Dr. Hannibal Lecter

100% yesssss I love it
Also, Debbie’d set her sights on Hannibal in qn INSTANT, but she’d pretty quickly realize that Hannibal only has eyes for Will.
Hannibal would just adore her as a patient, though. He wouldn’t even really need to provide care, more just like “You’re doing AMAZING, sweetie. ”
I mean IMO the only real PROBLEMS she had as *part* of the Addams family was her emotional immaturity.
They were FINE with her entitlement, her ambition, her homicidal intent. The trail of bodies behind her wasn’t really an issue either. At the end of the day, the biggest point of friction was her impatience and inability to self-regulate.
She could have kept trying to kill Fester for DECADES and he would have LOVED it. She just wasn’t able to reflect and adapt. Maybe if she had, she could have come up with additional get-rich murder schemes that DIDN’T require marriage. Maybe a small influencer-follower cult or beauty product pyramid scheme.
Given the right resources and support she could have THRIVED with the Addamses. Let me have this
“At the end of the day, the biggest point of friction was her impatience and inability to self-regulate.”
You forgot about pastels…
Tell me YOU don’t have relatives with questionable style preferences
Pastel Goth is a thing. Tell me that feathered robe didn’t fit right in with their style, albeit in a different color scheme.
The comment isn’t about her clothing style, iirc. Morticia is fully on Team Debbie until she’s inside the newly bought house, and she notices Debbie has decorated entirely in the current trend of subdued pastels.
This woman has proven she thrives once she stops toeing the line. Her style isn’t dark, but neither is it light; it’s excessive, vulgar overconsumption that can’t exist in polite society. It’s why and how she fits in with the Addamses.
And then, at the peak of all her achievements, when she can finally get whatever she wants—she gets what everyone else has. Restraint. Zero personality. It’s not like her, and Morticia immediately notices and questions it. Maybe to mock, but more likely as a genuine expression of concern.
What’s more, when Debbie feels called out on it, she stomps her feet and throws a tantrum. She sees Morticia as enough of an authority figure that she assumes she’s being told once again that she didn’t, can’t, get the best, no matter how much she tries. She could have casually waved away the comment with “it suits my purpose… for now” or “still getting settled in”, but it doesn’t cross her mind that she can argue with it, or even that it might not be meant as a personal attack.
The underlying message in any Addams story is always “Why would you want what everyone else has when you can have something better?” It’s why Debbie’s color scheme is irrelevant. It’s why she can’t win in the end. It’s what Dr. Lecter would fix.
[The artist, putting a simple cake next to a much fancier one: “Aw man, that guy’s cake is way better than mine.” The Audience, gleefully holding up a knife and fork “HOLY SHIT! TWO CAKES!”]
Crazy thing about #healing #recovery Small Victories is when you’ll have some shit going on that’s like, saying this would involve admitting how you used to be doing. You know? Like hey guys good news I’m gonna change my bedsheets this year
That’s the thing about Doing Really Bad you kinda keep it to yourself. And then you start doing a little better & when you try to tell people this the vibe is like “what do you mean you were living in the sewer this whole time are you good?” while you’re standing there like Yeah that’s not the important part never mind that. I’m literally out of the sewer
Felt like it was time for a redraw! About one year ago I dreamt of small animated cutscenes– and now? Now I can’t wait to watch the first episode of the anime.
me when i spend a long time drawing something that really does not look good at all and is honestly too ugly to want to share with anybody but i still recognize that it was worth the time and effort because i still gained practice and experience from it that will contribute toward improving my skills
